Start around East Fort and the temple area

Start around East Fort and the temple area

East Fort is a central commercial area and a practical starting point for the temple area and nearby Kuthiramalika Palace Museum. The full name, Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, reflects the presiding deity Padmanabhaswamy, also known as Anantha; the city’s name is associated with him.

Temple worship times are scheduled in separate morning and evening periods, not as a continuous visitor-opening schedule. Kerala Tourism lists morning worship at 03:30–04:45, 06:30–07:00, 08:30–10:00, 10:30–11:10 and 11:45–12:00, with evening worship at 16:30–18:15 and 18:45–19:20. Timings may change during festivals.

Only Hindus are permitted inside. Men should wear a mundu or dhoti down to the heels and not wear a shirt; women may wear a sari, mundum neriyathum (set-mundu), skirt and blouse, or half sari. Dhotis are available to rent at the entrance, and temple authorities allow them to be worn over pants or churidhar.

Visit a palace museum

Visit a palace museum

Kuthiramalika Palace Museum, also called Puthenmalika Palace Museum, is a two-storied palace near the temple in the Fort complex. Its name means “palace of horses,” and 122 wooden horses are featured there.

The nearby Sree Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma Chithralayam presents the history, traditions and culture of Travancore over the last 200 years. The Temple Trust office is open Monday–Saturday, 10:00–17:00, and is closed on Sunday; those are office hours, not confirmed museum visitor hours. Check visitor arrangements separately before you set this part of the day.

Pause at Kanakakkunnu Palace

Pause at Kanakakkunnu Palace

Kanakakkunnu Palace gives the itinerary a later stop after the museum area. A stay in the Vasudevam Premium King Suite for a Kanakakkunnu Palace visit puts the palace about a 33-minute drive away.

A city circular bus route summary connects East Fort with Museum and Kanakakkunnu, so those stops are linked in the route information. For grounds and visitor planning, read more about Kanakakkunnu Palace.

Add a market stop if time allows

Add a market stop if time allows

Chalai Market is entered from East Fort, making it a natural optional stop to pair with the start or end of your time in that area.

Practical timing and local transport

Practical timing and local transport

Plan the day around confirmed visitor hours rather than assuming the worship schedule is the temple’s general opening schedule. Temple worship periods are split between morning and evening, while the Temple Trust office hours do not confirm museum entry times.

The circular bus route summary links East Fort, Museum and Kanakakkunnu, but it does not give a current timetable. For live schedules, entry arrangements and any changes to temple timings, check the official site before you go.
